Dois artigos da Economist (disponíveis na barra da esquerda) sobre este novo conflito despoletaram intenso debate. Das centenas de comentários retiro este: When it comes to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, arguments turn fundamental within nanoseconds, thus bringing the debate to a virtual standstill. This happens in spite of the fact that the solution to the conflict is simple (unlike in other conflicts), and it's been reiterated a million times: 1967 borders (with the possibility of mutually agreed land swaps), shares capital Jerusalem, compensation instead of right of return. It's that simple. And if the US would put their weight behind it, it could be done within a year.Regarding the current conflict: The question is not whether Israel's action is justified by the continuous bomb attacks from the Gaza strip (it is, in principle). Or whether it's out of proportion and therefore unlawful (it is, in reality). The question is whether the offensive will yield any lasting results, or any results at all.Just as in 2006: It won't.Israel has my greatest sympathies. But it is - again - acting stupid, at best. It's best friend, the US, must therefore guide Israel, with all the superpower's might.
